During the spring, PinPin has been part of a very exiting project called Leklabb (Play Lab) together with Not Quite in Fengersfors in Dalsland, Sweden.

Not Quite is a creative place and a network, where professional artists, craftsmen and designers work and are involved in different projects. You can read more about Not Quite on their website.

Leklabb is a project that aims to combine artists and designers to create site specific play possibilities and social spaces. The project is mainly focused to one specific area at Not Quite, where the end result will be a playful space where everyone is welcome and where everyone can use the space in their own way.
The collective process and the focus on the end users is the most important part of this project, and PinPin has been part of the project group as Child Culture Designers, sharing our knowledge about our method and how we work with children and site specific play. We have together with the rest of the project group had workshops with children in different ages as well as with adult users, to really find out what kind of space people want it to be and what kind of play that can occur there.

We think this is a great project, with a exiting collective process, and look forward to the continuation! We will write more here, and you can also check out Not Quite´s blog here.

This year in February we returned to Sapporo Snow Festival in Japan, and the annual International Snow Sculpture Contest. Together with Jens Thoms Ivarsson (Director of Design and Strategy) and Arne Bergh (Creative Director) of the ICEHOTEL we created the sculpture ”Frozen Wilderness”. The idea was to highlight the untouched nature of northern Sweden, and present our interpretation to the people of Sapporo. We wanted the keep the original cubic shape of the snow that all artists start from, and present it like a cut-out from the Arctic forest.

We were awarded with fourth prize in the contest, and got the artist choice award! We are very proud, and eager to go back next year again.

For more pictures check out the project page! You can also look at ICEHOTEL´s photo essay on their website.

And so the last day came… at last! Time to make all final adjustments, clean out all trash snow, ice, tools and everything else that was not supposed to be in there. And fix the bed! We like to be very accurate when we do things, so when it was time to put the wooden frames in…of course they didn´t fit. But thats one of the best things with a material like ice. We just took some away, and then it fitted. In the final cleaning procedure, even our faithful GoPro camera had to come out. But stay tuned for pics of the finished result…

You just have to get it really cold before you pour it on, which frankly isn’t very hard up here. We made a big effort to get the walls as ready as possible and get some of the boring job done. One of us also managed to cover the hole camera in slush, which makes it really hard to see the last part of the day.
